‘tis the season to abandon your principles
I don’t have many principles, but I do have a few establishments that I prefer not to patronise, for one reason or another. McDonalds is an easy one, as the food is rubbish and I don’t like the company’s business practices. Starbucks is another one, but purely because of their business practices - they tend to ‘infest’ areas, resulting in streets with multiple branches of Starbucks within a few hundred metres rather than let other coffee shops compete with them.
Another ‘principle’ is that I do not want anything to do with Christmas much before Christmas Eve really - the fact that the commercial Christmas explosion in shops now happens as soon as the Halloween gear is cleared out is pretty depressing.
However, there is one advantage to this, and it allows me to compromise multiple principles in one go: Gingerbread Lattes from Starbucks. I’m not sure why gingerbread is Christmassy, but it is, and I love them. Actually it compromises another of my principles, which is to have nothing to do with what Larry David referred to as ‘bullshit coffees’.
So, all I need to do is take my bullshit Gingerbread Latte to McDonalds to help me wash down a McBastardFoodItem and I’ll be all set.
